Labor Day 2003 at Roberts Lake

Mary and I arrived at the lake on Monday morning at around 9:00 am. I caught the first fish, a scrappy 13 lb'er, at around 1:00pm. After checking in at the motel, we went back for an evening session and I caught a nice 14 lb'er. Mary had a few good runs but wasn't able to hook up.

On Tuesday morning we started fishing at about 8:30 am. At around 10:00 am Mary got a screaming run and after a furious battle she subdued an 11½ lb mirror carp, almost certainly the same one that Wesley (Mick's son) caught a few weeks earlier since it's the only mirror carp in the lake to our knowledge. About 30 minutes later Mary had another run and battled a chunky 10 lb'er to the net. Soon after that I caught a 12 lb'er and then the action shut down abruptly. We headed for home at around noon and plan to return in the near future.

We used hair rigged sweet corn, maize (prepared field corn) and chic peas. All but one of our fish went for the sweet corn, I caught my last fish on maize.

Roberts Lake is a really pretty and peaceful place to relax and fish.
A shot of our swim at around 9:30 am on Monday morning.
As you can see, it's a very peaceful place.

Mary's 11 lb mirror carp caught on Tuesday September 2, 2003
Mary caught and released the same mirror carp that Wesley caught a few weeks ago, it weighed 11½ lbs on our scale. It is the only mirror carp in the lake as far as we know.
Mary was having trouble holding on to the fish due to her excitement
of the catch so I held the fish while she took the picture.

A very hard fighting 13 lb'er I caught on Labor Day.
